Summary: A tag to episode 1.4, "Walkabout"...with hints of something or other.
Such a simple word...and yet so heavy. One that trips over his tongue,
more foreign than others. It's been four days and they are lost. He has the pictures now and he had thought them lost.
He traces her cheek with his fingertips, leaving smudges over smudges over her beauty. He remembers her eyes through the slits of her burqha, how
they were the first thing that caught him and beckoned him close. The women of his homeland are not shy, not cowed. If anything, being covered from head to toe makes them bold...for she made love to him with just a look long before they ever touched, ever spoke.
Lost. That is the last time he was lost.
"Sayid..."
Different eyes. Resentful. Shifting. They flit to the fire, where Locke's prized boar is roasting, and back again. Kate told the others she was vegetarian... but no one... no one asked him if he ate only Halal. Perhaps no one thought to ask after he helped handle the dead. Sometimes, it feels as though he has handled more than his share.
Shiny packets of airline peanuts...counted, four...fall into his lap.
"Found 'em," Sawyer mutters, before he turns and walks away.
Found, too, is a simple word.
And so unbearably heavy.
--end--
O mankind! Eat of that which is lawful and wholesome
in the earth, and follow not the footsteps of the devil.
Lo! he is an open enemy for you. (Quran, 2:168)
